Have you tried transferring the content to another/new SD card via the Naviextras Toolbox?

I think you'd have a pretty good case for lodging a formal complaint with the Office of Consumer protection (of whatever it's called in your state). The Eclipse unit was sold with the car and therefore should be covered.
I have to admit when I did my GPS update I made two backups. Just in case. I have an IT degree and I don't trust computers!

Re: GPS map upgrade TL and Ti owners

Hi All,

Has anyone had any success in updating the maps on the T31 with eclipse head unit?

They want to charge $120 for a one off update! Rip OFF!!

I have downloaded the latest australian navteq maps and copied them over the the SD card but the unit does not recognise it. It has some sort of code linking the maps to the unit.

There must be a way round it!

Any ideas?

There is no way around it and the Eclipse head unit will not accept or work with any aftermarket SD card with pirated content and maps.

If you know that you gonna be updating your maps quite often, it will be cheaper for you to buy one of the cheap eBay head units which accepts anything.

Either that or pay the advertised price.

I personally won't be updating my maps in a hurry, as the current ones (2011 version) take me everywhere I need to do without any problems.

Re: GPS map upgrade TL and Ti owners

my unit is using 2009 maps. my only gripe is that if i spend the money to update them they will be out of date in a few months with all the road changes going on in brisbane. There is always a way around these things. lets hope somebody finds a away soon. If they charged $50 an update then id prob do it ervery year but $120 is a bit steep

Re:

Finally fixed my SDcard I think (so far so good) eventually managed to full format the Eclipse SDcard and copy the original backup files onto it. Almost everything is working better than when I got the car, I also work in IT, have done lot's of upgrades on all sorts of equipment, including GPS units and I still believe this card had (still has) errors on arrival.

The one thing that seems not to be working and is strange when I do the voice input (for navigation) I get the message "This feature cannot be used with the selected guidance voice profile." this happens with all three voices so changing them doesn't fix it. I've emailed Naviextras about this.

The voice rec. works fine with the phone functions just not navigation. I guess it's not that bad, when it worked it wasn't the best anyway, I found it slow and it never actually understood my directions.

I certainly don't like the idea of updating through the Naviextras Toolbox and going through these issues again. Touch wood nothing goes wrong with the car again as the contacting both Nissan HQ, my dealer and eventually Eclipse has left me with a bad taste in my mouth and extremely worried about customer service. I wish I could be more positive but my experiences and the ones of others I've found researching solutions online are extremely concerning.

Time to go for a drive.

Re:

Boyo,

Check through the Naviextras toolbox for upgrades as I think you'll find that the 2012Q1 update is available for free for you. I got mine free as part of their 'guarantee'. But you have to get it through Naviextras Toolbox and have an account with them. All my updates since that I've had to pay for.

For Mr Sully, I didn't actually know that the voice recognition function actually worked for anything in the Eclipse unit - now you have me interested! I'll have to check this one out.

Voice recognition? Really? not sure how I missed this feature as I can't remember reading it in the Eclipse manual....it's either that or the Eclipse can't understand my accent LOL emoticon
