Re: *NEW T30 RECALL*Airbag Inflator*
Just called Nissan Australia re the recall as i have a 2003 t30 Ti. The lady told me the recall is in North America and that Nissan Australia is "investigating this issue in the Australian market and that no Australian recall had been initiated yet". She said they would know in the next month or so and i would be notified by mail. I asked her how she will do that since im a second owner and she told me that they get required addresses through the RTA database.
So i guess i just sit by the mail box for the next month or so.
Just about to drive 2300kms to broome so it looks like i will be extra extra careful now.

Re:
That is totally wrong information you were given.
The recall has been confirmed for Australia already and it is listed on a goverment website and confirmed by Nissan Australian on their facebook page as well.
Nissan don't go searching for 2nd owners in the RTA database, rather she should have directed you to a department that would have taken your details and your VIN to update their customer database.
They don't allocate a campaign number to a recall unless it has been 100% confirmed, so she obviously has no idea what she's talking about and you should given her the campaign number as a reference.

Re: *NEW T30 RECALL*Airbag Inflator*
Hi Max,
I have re-confirmed the recall with Nissan Australia and they said it is indeed a valid one and all affected owners will be notified by mail.
I would suggest you call Nissan Australia and request an update of their records to have your details and address recorded against the vehicle to ensure you receive the letter.
Here is a copy of my conversation with Nissan Australia:

Re:
Hi Max,
I just called Nissan Australia on 1800 035 035 to advise them of a change in my rego number and they do indeed change this in their customer record database and have asked me if I am the 2nd owner, as they can change the vehicle ownership and customer address and contact details at the same time.

Re: *NEW T30 RECALL*Airbag Inflator*
I called nissan australia again today and they said that they have issued a recall.
I asked what vin numbers were included and the guy on the end of the phone said that i would be contacted through the rta database if i was included in the recall.
i popped the bonnet while i was on the phone to try and get him to tell me if i was included and he said he didn't have that information.
when i offered my details to him he wouldn't take them and was told i would be informed by mail.
how can each person who works at nissan give out a different story?
In addition I will call again tomorrow and insist that I give them my details. I will start taking operator names for a record of the call.

Re:
As I said previously and confirmed by Nissan Australia, they don't use any RTA database. They have their own customer records database.
If you can't get anywhere by speaking to Nissan Australia, post your query on their Facebook page.
Maybe you should tell the guy on the phone that you want to make sure they have the right owner details on their database instead of trying to give them your details?

It's not the same thing if you are the second owner or bought the car 2nd hand, in which case their records would have an old owners name and an old address, which means you have a chance of not receiving the letter at all.
If however you are the first owner of the car, then there is nothing to worry about and Nissan would already have your details and you will be notified if impacted.
You need to call them and clearly state the following:
"I would like to make sure that your customer records reflect me as the current owner of the car, as I bought it second hand and would like to have my details recorded in your database"
They will ask you for the rego number, and maybe also the VIN number and then they will go into the car record on their database and only then they will grab your new details (name and address).
Once they finish doing that at their end, you can nicely ask them the following
"I know there has been a recall for the T30 X-Trail and I am just wondering if my car is impacted by this recall? as you would have sent the recall letter to the previous owner if my car was included"
I called Nissan many times and the last which was to change my rego number and they do pull up the car's record everytime I speak to them.
