M9R Diesel ECU Software update available

Hi guys,

I started a new thread on this as I couldn't find another one that matches. I have finally received my TL Diesel back with a brand new EGR valve and the dealer has also updated the ECU software for me as well.
The dealer told me that this is a brand new update - only a matter of weeks old - and it apparently addresses a number of issues with the M9R engine, in particular the opening/closing times of the EGR valve in order to reduce it clogging up.
If you haven't had your car serviced by a Nissan dealer recently it might be worth getting this software update. I'm only going off what the dealer has told me but I have no reason not to believe him as he has given me fantastic service (to be reported in the warranty repairs section separately!).
Hope this helps. Since getting the car back I've noticed a marked improvement in horsepower (probably related to the EGR valve).

Re: M9R Diesel ECU Software update available

Thanks Exy,

I'm due for a service next week at a Nissan dealer. Does anyone know if I have to request this ECU software upgrade when the service is done or do I have to specificly request it? Do they charge for this?

Cheers

Re:

Any software updates are automatically done by the dealer at the service without you asking for it and this will be done at no charge to you.

Mine had the 10,000km service done 2 weeks ago, so I assume it was done.

I'll be calling the dealer in the morning to make sure it was.

Re:

Not necessarily Jalal,
I had a recent ECU re mapping (upgrade) done on the Navara to reduce the amount of black smoke out of the exhaust.
If not for the Navara forum, I still wouldn't have known about it.

I rang Nissan and booked it in, when I arrived I told them that I had a lot of drivers pull along side of me saying there is a lot of black smoke coming out.
They told me that an upgrade was available, I already knew this of course.

I asked the service manager at my most favourite dealer (NMG) and he told me the upgrade had been available for over 12 months.

If you don't ask, you won't always get.

Re: ECU upgrade

Confirmed yesterday that the dealer didn't do the ECU upgrade at the 10,000 km service because "it wasn't critical."

So my advice to everybody is to specifically ask the dealer if the have done it when you get a service done. DON'T assume it will automatically be done.

Re: M9R Diesel ECU Software update available

Does anyone know the official name or release number for this update?

When I emailed my Nissan "Service Advisor" to check if an ECU software update was performed during a recent service, his response was "WHICH UPDATE YOU TALKING ABOUT" (and yes he responds to emails in capital letters and that was the complete response)

in the interim, I might ask him just to check if it is the most current version since they currently have my car in their workshop...

cheers,
Chris

Re: M9R Diesel ECU Software update available

The plot thickens...

I called Nissan Customer Service who eventually checked with their technical department, and advised that there are no general ECU updates. Apparently ECU's are only updated if there is a problem caused by a fault in the ECU software...

I guess my exy wont get any ECU updates anytime soon.

cheers,
Chris

Isn't that what an update is for ? emoticon
So you would expect that if an update is available then there is an identified fault in the existing ECU software which needs to be corrected.
Doesn't mean that the discovered fault will affect everyone, just that there is a fault which might.
