Re: What level should the oil be after a service ?
Please ask them for an explanation of why it should take 20 minutes to check the oil. The only thing I can think of is that they drive the car into the workshop, have a coffee while the oil drains back and then check it. Checking the oil on a cold engine is a 1 minute procedure.

I was also told that i did not no how to check the oil properly as there is a special procedure to do that and it takes around 20 min to do properly.
Maybe they can enlighten us all by sharing that "special procedure" which seems to defy the clearly stated Nissan Japan ones for checking the oil level on a diesel engine as stated below:
Print this and show it to them, so they can account for the extra 10 minutes they spent stirring their coffee and admiring your exy LOL
Oops I forgot, some Nissan dealers charge their time in double

Re: What level should the oil be after a service ?
Perhaps you should name the dealer in the shonky dealers thread at the top of this section.
As Jalal shows in the extract, even a warm engine should only take 10 minutes to check the oil.
Out of the 7+ litres in the diesel, surely 1/2 litre isn't going to show as such a low reading.
Get them to show you the tin that the oil came in. I seriously wouldn't trust that they've put the right oil in. Unfortunately without an industrial chemist I don't know how you could check what is actually in there.
Makes notes about all this, with dates and times and what has happened. Keep the receipts. If you end up with a clogged DPF down the track then you'll have some of what you'll need to push the warranty claim.

Re:
Generally the oil level is just a guess using the dipstick as their guide, a little at a time.
They generally have an idea of how much is drained from the sump to start with.
A Brand specific mechanic (Nissan) will know how much to put in exactly, but they will still use the dipstick to make sure.
As a rule of thumb, 10 litres will always cost less than buying 2 x 5 litre containers.
When you think of it, the remaining oil over 3 or 4 changes will supply you enough oil to do another oil change .
