Stuck fuel filler flap

Hi Guys,
We can't open the fuel filler flap on our new xtrail, called roadside assistance and the guy that came out had no idea and advised us to take it into Nissan.
Any ideas ? It is nearly out of fuel !!!

Re: Stuck fuel filler flap

Tried that, even went through lock and unlock 3 times which is supposed to reset something, it's a bit silly that their isn't a manual over ride or latch ?

Re:

Thats the problem, the little latch that locks the flap has stayed in the lock position.
You'll have to try and release it from inside the wheel arch.

Re:

After pressing lock unlock 100 times it's now open, it then stuck in the unlock position so at least I could put fuel in it. Seems Intermittant so off to Nissan next week to get it sorted.

Re:

Cool, must be a loose wire or a fault in the switch to pull the lock into place.

Re: Stuck fuel filler flap

It had a thick like silicone grease on the plastic latch, I cleaned it and lubricated it with a little machine oil and seems to be ok now

Re: Stuck fuel filler flap

Useful thread.

I had no idea you could pop the unlocked fuel cover from the wheel arch.

Now I know the rod can become "sticky" and decline to retract at the same time of the doors unlocking, I am fore-warned, hence fore-armed.

Thank you.

Re: Re: Cooch t31

Onya Cooch t31, I'll certainly keep that in mind getting it unlatched.
There was a lady at the servo who could not open hers. She decided to press her lock and unlock a couple of times and presto, able to open flap.
About the only thing I reckon it could be, is that the flap is opened and then the car is locked, so it kind of reverses the situation.
