Re: 2012 T31 X-Trail Models Feature Variations (Series 5)
The Eclipse head unit is not capable of providing a multi-image screen displaying different feeds from different cameras.

Re:
Thanks Jalalski, I understand that the Eclipse head unit would not be able have multiple inputs to the unit for the cameras. What I am wondering though, is the AVM setup in the series 5 built into the nissan unit or is it separate hardware. I am wondering this as the camera button is not on the unit itself and is instead down near the 4x4 mode control. If this was the case, I would assume it is a single image input into the the nav unit as it would be for any other reversing camera.
Also I had a play with the new Nissan unit today. The maps they had on it were 2011 V3 and they said they don't have any current updates for it, and do not have a foreseeable date that it will be release as it is only a new unit. I took the SD card out of the unit and it seems that the maps are supplied by Sensis, so it should be fairly easy to get updates for it. Hopefully if I was to get it I would have more luck than the mistubishi mmcs unit that is running whereis.
I also notice the unit I was playing with had a separate traffic alert button, however when I pressed it said it was not hooked up, does anyone know if Nissan have subscribed to the traffic alerts or if they are going to?
All in all, although it looks dated compared to other units out there I found it to be above my expectations.

Re:
Fair enough, according to the Nissan Japan Website the AVM seems to be a stand-alone unit and it consists of an Image Processing Unit and a Solar Control Unit, both of these units are connected to the display. The Image Processing Unit is responsible for merging all 4 images taken by the 4 cameras into one image which gets displayed on the head unit in the dash.
In theory you should be able to plug this system into any display head unit and achieve the same result, the only question is how much Nissan would want for it and the answer is usually a scary one

Re: 2012 T31 X-Trail Models Feature Variations (Series 5)
The 3 camera system in the BMW X5 is much better. All 3 cameras have the same image size with no distortion between the images when an object passes from one camera's field of vision to another's. Not sure if it is camera placement or image processing.
