Re:
Jalal,
Maybe it's time to start doing some engine mods then, piggy back ECU, extractors. lol.
I think the CVT holds it back quite a bit as I found the manual to be perky and alive.

Re:
Sorry mate, not the right thread to talk about drag racing and a drag race doesn't really prove anything in terms of comparing power between a T30 and a T31.
Both of the T30 xtrails in the video above (one of which was my T30) are modified vehicles and have plenty of performance mods.
The times are indeed respectable and FAST for a SUV like a T30, especially the turbo-charged one.
Taking a standard T31 to a drag race won't achieve anything and won't change my mind about it lacking power.
Apart from the fact that it has less horse power than the T30 series 1 straight off the bat, the lack of power is not only attributed to its heavy weight, but the major restrictions they have programmed into the ECU.
I personally can judge the performance of the T31 CVT by feel, simply because I have driven a T30 (stock standard) for a while and know how it felt, so I don't need a drag race or a dyno to prove that fact for me....the T31 CVT is indeed under-powered when compared to a standard T30 Series 1.

Re: X-Trail T31 - CVT transmission
Hi to All,
One of my guys at work is looking at a SUV, can't convince him on the Xtrail after some of the things he has read. He is looking at a Mitsubishi ASX and still has reservations about the CVT. I seen a page on the web where Mitsubishi has taken customer feedback and general dissatisfaction with CVT performance, and is releasing new CVT software with models in August. I have searched hi and low since to find the article but still haven't. As we said in previous posts, if you can give it more than 10% throttle off the mark, it's brilliant, if you can't, your a moving roadblock. Some days I find myself using manual mode more and more. Allow the engine to deliver torque at the right revs and select the gears manually, you have a vehicle that will out qualify all others around it. First, second and third seem fairly close in ratio making the gear change between them is almost as smooth as normal CVT.
The CVT was engineered and programmed to deliver the best fuel economy possible for the overseas standards. I cant understand why then manual owners aren't subject to the same standard and adding piggy back ECU's wont change the internal mapping of the CVT software. The torque converter lock up that Peter spoke of earlier, doesn't seem to occur as early in manual mode, just my opinion, allowing smoother starts as well.
John

John
It is almost impossible for this to happen John as it is the driver that depicts the gear, acceleration and time per gear, no ECU can override this.

Whoa - with respect lighten up a bit
The T31 may not be as zippy as a T30 (that has conventional responsive auto transmission at least) but it does get moving really well in Manual Mode and also in Drive if you use judicious accelerator. I must agree that in "Normal driving" I took forever to get used to the woeful responsiveness and almost stalling behaviour - but eventually discovered it's two-faced personality and now know it is no slouch - we just have to figure out how to drive it.
Agree less power (169 Horsepower, down from 177 Horsepower) and more weight must make you yearn for the T30 performance but . . . .
