Re: Bad fuel economy due to dying O2 sensor

I am also facing loss of power in my car described here http://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/t129650 (System too lean, code P0174)

...and because i also noticed (and recorded) bad fuel economy
...plus in the first garage i took the car with the Check engine light they told me about a possible faulty O2 sensor...

I was wondring if it would be a good idea to also change this sensor,to improve my car's performance...(I recently replaced manifold and catalytic converter)

My car used to to 10-11 Litres per 100 Km, and now i measured about 12-14.5 Litres for the 100Km!!

Can i easily find one of those through ebay? How can i find what excaclty is the part i need (serial numbers, etc)??

Thanks in advance!

P.S. I am amazed of so much knowledge inside this forum...and i wish people in the garage had at least 30% of this!!!! emoticon

Not really sure if the O2 sensor is the same in the 2.0LT engine as it is in the 2.5LT one, so you will need to check the part number with your Nissan dealer and post it here.

Re: Bad fuel economy due to dying O2 sensor

Here is a picture of the one O2 sensor (the lower one).

O2 sensor picture

It has 22mm nut, and 55cm cable, and it's a 3-wire sensor (2 white, 1 black)

Closer View

Is the other one the same? (the one in the upper side of the catalyst)
Which is the most important to replace?

It looks the same, but as I said, you need to check the part numbers with your Nissan dealer in Cyprus and they will also tell you if both O2 sensors are the same (lower and upper).

Re: Re:

I would buy a sensor today, if i knew excaclty what i need...! emoticon

I did a lot of internet search with no luck...

The problem is that Nissan will not help me if i visit just to be informed about the sensor's part number.... especially if they understand that i need it to order it my self!!

They will 100% find an excuse to keep the car inside to replace it themselves.

I don't know if you have that kind of Customer service in Australia, if you do, maybe i leave in the wrong country!

I am thinking of going to an Auto Parts shop, with the sensor in hand, and ask for one the same, or tell them to give me tha part number first to check with Nissan, and use it to order from Internet.

I know is just my problem, not your guys...but sharing it may give me some ideas on how to deal with that...

Re:

Sounds like a strange way to deal with customers. Here we can call any dealer to enquire about the price and the part number of any Nissan part. Can't your local mechanic call Nissan on your behalf and find out the part number?

Re:

Dimitris,
try ringing your Nissan dealer and ask for a price, when and if they give it to you, ask for the part number to confirm if it is the right part.
It may work.

I did excaclty that! emoticon
He gave me the part number, but he told me they dont' have the part(!!) because my car is different from those coming to Cyprus (i bought it as Japan's used).

So, the Part numbers are : For the upper one 226906N206 and the lower one 226916N206.

I found this (lower sensor)... Sensor
I found it also on ebay..i believe it is from the same store...

The price seems too low...and i am not sure if the quality will be good enough...what do you think? If it will do the job, i will also order the upper one and change both.

In case i find one of a better quality, the lower one is more common to be faulty or is a matter of luck??
(i get errors system too lean-bank2, and system too rich-bank1)

If its that cheap, it wouldn't hurt to try. It might last longer that the genuine one.

Re:

If it works on a Mercedes and BMW, it will work in the exy for sure LOL emoticon

I would try replacing the upper sensor first through as it is the one the stops working first usually due to excessive heat in the engine bay and other factors. The lower one can get physically damaged, so if the wiring is OK on the lower one, leave it as it is and replace the top one first to see if that solves your problem.
