Re:

That is correct. You can purchase the additional extended Nissan Australia factory warranty at any time within the 3 year period before your existing warranty expires. It's the dealer extended warranty that you can only get at the time of purchase and this is worth nothing compared to the factory one, which is the real deal.

The dealer warranty can only be maintained if you agree to be locked to their servicing, which sometimes means getting stuck with bad service and/or bad customer service.

Re:

The only real factory warranty is the one sold by the dealers or directly by Nissan Australia, so be careful where you spend your money or you could risk ending up with a fake warranty. A factory warranty for 100 bucks is in no way a real one!

I didn't say anything about the people you are dealing with, but you need to know that they are NOT an authorized Nissan Australia representatives nor they are a Nissan dealer!

Re: Extending the Warranty Should I do it

Hey all

Just bit of an update. I bought my 3 year Genuine Nissan Extended Warranty when I purchased my Ti CVT T31.
I rang my Nissan Dealer today and asked about the 100 Dollar excess when making a small claim when it starts in 3 years. He stated that as I bought it from the beginning with my new car, it doesn`t apply to me.

Also he stated that as at 01-Jan-2012 Nissan will only offer Genuine Extended Warranty with the purchase of a new car. No more with second hand cars, which was where the 100 Dollars comes in.

I confirmed this with Nissan twice.

Also New Car Warranty starts on the registration date, not when the car is paid for or picked up. Also the Extended Warranty Starts when the new warranty finishes.

Re:

Hi Wal,

Nissan and all other manufacturers were forced to adjust their extended warranty policies to comply with the new government legislation which started on 1.1.2012 and which basically covers all consumers against defects if you are within or out of the factory warranty. (details explained HERE).

There is no more such thing as "extended warranty".

From the ACCC website:

quote:

Extended warranties

Extended warranties are a type of voluntary warranty. Extended warranties generally extend the period of protection given by a voluntary warranty for a cost.

Businesses should take particular care when describing and selling extended warranties to ensure that consumers are not misled into thinking that they are required to pay for rights that are already provided by the consumer guarantees.

For example:

A computer is sold with a free 12-month warranty given by the manufacturer. The seller advises the consumer that they need to purchase a three year extended warranty, otherwise they will have no right to a remedy after the 12-month warranty period expires.

In this case, the seller is likely to have breached the ACL by advising the consumer that they need to pay for rights provided for under the consumer guarantees.

Re: Extending the Warranty Should I do it

This is great news for consumers and us.

I guess the question is whether the new rules only apply to vehicles etc purchased on or after 1 Jan 2012 when the legislation is effective from or whether it actually also applies to vehicles where the original warranty is about to expire and the extended warranty is then offered.

Seems a "Grey" area - anyone know??

Re:

You can call ACCC and ask, but for the Canon camera that I bought prior to this date and which was sold to me with 2 years extended warranty, Canon Australia said the new legislation covered it in full for any defects and it is not limited to 2 years anymore. They even said that if I paid for the extra 2 years extended warranty I was entitled to a refund (in my case, the extended warranty was thrown-in as part of the deal, so I didn't actually pay for it).

Re: Extending the Warranty Should I do it

OK so how does that effect me? My extended warranty started on 30-Dec-2011.

So have I wasted 1000 Dollars?

Am I entitled for a refund?

When is there a cut point? In other words if you bought something 15 years ago, and find it broke down because of a defect, can you still claim? Think not ....
