Hi Guys,

Just a quick update on the progress of my fuel consumption since buying the Red Bull in June and especially after returning from the Woolgoolga trip.

I am very happy to report that the fuel consumption is now a more realistic 10.5LT local street driving which I think is the correct fuel consumption with my "spirited" driving style and hitting the 3000RPM when taking off at the lights at all time. Some of this driving included driving with an air-con as well.

It seems what the salesman told me that the fuel consumption will settle close to the 5,000kms mark is true after all. It's either that or the long run to Woolgoolga and back helped settle the Red Bull.

The highway fuel consumption to Woolgoolga and back was between 8.7LT to 9.2LT/100kms which was awesome considering the car was packed with stuff.

I am happy with these figures indeed.

Hi Jalalski,

I think this is the correct thread. My car has now done 1250km and my average says on the dashboard 11.8 l/100 km. Could it be early days for a correct value?

Re: Fuel consumption (T30 & T31 Petrol Versions)

Hi Wal,

Yep, this is the correct thread.

I had my Series 4 CVT (Red Bull) since late June 2011 (it was manufactured in May 2011 and shipped directly to me from the Nissan factory in Japan).

I can now confirm that the CVT is VERY thirsty for suburban type of driving and the best fuel consumption I got to date for continues suburban driving is 14LT/100kms. (using my calculations and not the FC in-car monitor)

As soon as I hit the highway, the fuel consumption drops immediately and stays somewhere between 8.5LT-9.0LT/100kms

It takes a new car about 5000kms to settle in and give you the correct indication of the fuel consumption, as it is adapting to your driving style in the early stages.

P.S. My dashboard says 16.2L/100kms at the moment, but when I fill-up and use the trip meter as the figure to calculate the usage for the previous tank, this consumption drops to about 14L/100kms, so the dash reading is not that accurate.

Hi All
I have just done a small trip to Coffs and did a petrol check, 2008 CVT xtrail 32000 on the clock, I did 624 klms and used 50.5 lts of e10, made up of about 1/3 town driving 2/3 Hiway.
Pretty pleased with that, normal speeds up to 110..
  Cheers Kevin..

Re:

My last trip to SEQ from Cairns & return, over christmas, the exy averaged 8.99litres/100km. Lowest was 8.49, highest was 9.58 which included a number of kms running around Cairns city before I left. The (comparatively) short trip up the Gillies Highway to Atherton from Cairns on my way home it went right up to 11.25 - 17km of slow bends.
Usually refuel with 95 or 98.

Re: Fuel consumption (T30 & T31 2.5LT Petrol Versions)

Mine is brand new with only about 3000K's on so far. 4wd auto ST.
So far we have been averaging close to 12/100 which is just a little worse than I was getting in my 3 litre patrol. On the highway my patrol always achieved better than 10/100 with AC on and doing highway speeds. (maybe a bit more at times).
So far not all that happy with the economy and I hope it improves with some more K's on the clock.
Please don't quote economy as k's per tank, means very little, I was getting over 1000K's per tank on my patrol, means little as it depends on the tank and when you decide to fill.

I don't like the way the brake pedal negates the accelerator when it is slightly pushed. Certainly make it hard to reverse slowly. I will have to learn to reverse using the go pedal rather than the recommended method of using the brake pedal.
I am using normal ULP not the expensive stuff.

One question I would like answered is about the fuel gauge. Is the faulty reading problem still with the latest model?

Re: Fuel consumption (T30 & T31 2.5LT Petrol Versions)

On a recent run to the Little desert i averaged 8.75 litres / 100 km, apart from the first 30km's being in the suburbs the other 400 odd km's was on the highway averaging 100 kph. The western highway is mostly flat, and hence it's one of the best recorded figures iv'e achieved on a long run.

At the other end of the scale the suburban route is 10kms here and there with stop starting type traffic, averaging 12.5 litres / 100 km's.

Re:

Northernangler, if yours is anything like mine. They will tell you it'll get better. But nothing actually changes... From what I've seen on the forums. The people who get the good figures have got them from the start. Mine has 20,000km. I purchased it in 2012. I get 12l/100km.

Also on an interesting note. Removed my air filter at 7000km and was completely covered in oil. (new oil, not from engine). Nissan said this was odd, but were not at all interested.

I get 12l/100km with about 70% highway driving. I think it should be illegal to claim 9.1l/100km on the sticker of the new car in the show room if it can't do that on the highway...
