Re: Yokohama Geolander AT/S Mileage and Fuel Economy
In terms of mileage i can only say that others on the forum have got more than 60k out of a set of tyres, mine have only done a few thousand so far and they are very nice riding and much quieter than my previous A/T tyres.
Fuel economy figures are close to that of a road tyre with the same sizing, perhaps only .5 litre/100km worst off. It's been over 70k since i had the original tyres on so an exact comparison is a little hard. The Yokohmama's have been recommended from other owners of xtrails and foresters who have been happy with them.

Come to Sydney Julie if you want to see rain, we're sick of it.
The Yoki's are a great tyre, I loved having a set on mine, far better that the stockies.

Re:
Good job this thread came up. I've just noticed that the middle of both my front tyres is worn down quite a way. Local tyre guy reckons I might "get a bit more wear" out of them, but I think they're too low.
The rear tyres still look very good to me, and I'm concerned that this has happened to the front ones only. Local tyre guy said there was probably too much air in them, but they were serviced at Bob Jane in Nambour and I've only done 3,520km since then.

I sent an email to Bob Jane Cairns with these pics, Julie has just rung me back to tell me I need new front tyres and that 47,328kms is "better than most" tyres do, and that the guarantee is not on kms.
This is the very first time I've had to replace two tyres only as all four have always worn pretty evenly, in the Toyos and the Cooper CS4s.
She has just gone to check my pics of the rear tyres, and see what she thinks of the wear on those, and I'm just waiting for her to call me back.
In any case I have to order two new front ones. Just think that they should have lasted as long as the back ones.
Is it possible that if too high air pressure could have worn them that much in 3,520kms?
Edit: Julie got back to me and at least I only have to replace the front ones - $255 each. (Bob Jane in Nambour quoted $257, so it's worth shopping local and keeping my money in the region.)

Re: Yokohama Geolander AT/S Mileage and Fuel Economy
I got about 65k/3yrs from my OEM Bridgestone H/Ts and then about 55k/3yrs from my Pirelli Scorpion AT/S.
My Yoko Geo's have been on since 118k and the Xtrail is now over 150k/2yrs and enough tread left for another year I would estimate so about the same 50-60k/3yrs.
Noise from the Yoko Geo's is much less than the Pirelli Scorpion AT/s (no longer available) and comparable to the H/T's
Fuel economy with the H/T's was about 10.5/100km and 12.5/100km with the Pirelli's and now 11.5/100km with the Yoko's.

Re:
Julie,
This is why you have to rotate your tyres, so all 4 wear evenly.
I think your front tyres are over inflated as well judgeing from the wear in the middle.

Re:
Hi Tony, I have been rotating the tyres, Bob Jane Cairns each time except for the last Bob Jane at Nambour. That is exactly why I am so surprised to find the front ones have gone like that, and that the back ones seem to be so much better.
I've only done 3520km since then. Just driving back up here, and a couple trips to Cairns. Bob Jane Nambour didn't tell me my tyres were on the way out, so I'm presuming it's happened in the last 3000km.
I have been religious in getting all my tyres serviced at the right time, almost to the km. Guess I should have checked the pressures, but I didn't this time.
Anyway, I've now resigned myself to yet another expense. That's life.

Re: Yokohama Geolander AT/S Mileage and Fuel Economy
Hey trailx
Even in "Auto" the X-Trail is basically a front wheel drive car ie front wheels do most of the driving AND braking (and steering).
Typical "Driven" tyre wear is near the centre even with correct tyre pressure. Those tyres look like they have worn quite well and quite evenly over the full 47,000kms - not just the past 3,000kms. Remember that tyres tend to wear rather rapidly as they approach the end of their life so you may have not noticed their true state even relatively recently. The wear is absolutely typical, shows your alignment is good and you don't drive hard around corners; you probably have no grounds for complaint at all.
If the tyres weren't rotated then 47,000kms is pretty good for the fronts given the work they have done.
I would be very happy with the kms under these circumstances.
As the rear haven't worn as much, it is obvious there was no tyre rotation at service and they have basically been "Trailer" tyres as far as the work they have done (hardly any).
On other cars I've owned I've often NOT rotated my tyres and have kept rear tyres for at least two or three front tyre replacements.
On the Xy though, the electronics like to have all 4 tyres about the same state of wear, so rotation every 10,000kms is probably a VERY good idea for this reason alone.
Those front tyres look like they are no longer legal so replace them ASAP; an insurance company won't pay out if your car is un-roadworthy for any reason.
It's all good - get the front replaced and leave them on for a while - then get into a rotation schedule to even out the wear. You might start measuring the tread depth (buy a tread depth gauge) over time to determine when the new front and old rear have the same depth, then start rotating every 10,000kms.
