Hi Ben,

The Cat. Back System hasn't been fitted to an auto T31 diesel as yet.

The system has no impact on the DPF whatsoever and kawasuki (Ray) has this exact fitted on his Series 3 T31 diesel for quite sometime. He's also using a chip in his T31. Please refer to THIS thread for more details.

Hey Kawasuki, and any others who have experience with this upgrade ...

I am thinking of getting the cat back single exhaust for my manual TL 2010 diesel. Obviously people are happy with the extra power/torque. Can you give me an update on how it is going since you got it at the start of the year?

I would be interested in:

any changes in fuel consumption (there was a small mention of an improvement with the initial system). Have you experienced this?
any increase or decrease in exhaust noise? highway or city?
Did the bigger pipe affect your clearance?

Cheers

Nick

Hi Tech Cat Back System

Righto people, I've had the upgrade done to a new T31 TS Diesel Manual right after Christmas. It only had 2600km on the clock by the time I got it to Surrey Hills and am very happy with it, Lambros and his bunch of merry men.

With the windows down, I noticed a VERY SLIGHT increase in exhaust note under load (ie labouring in gear under 1500rpm) Otherwise with the windows up, there's no real change in noise level over the standard system. I didn't want to turn the vehicle into a noisy cop bait machine, so I'm thrilled with the result.

Fuel economy improved right away.

In it's first month on the road I've done 6000km and have also noticed that running it on Vortex Diesel makes a noticeable difference to fuel economy.

In closing, all I can say is that if you are thinking about getting it done, stop procrastinating and DO IT!

Here is the finished result!

I'm interested in this system, but also curious as to why the "after" dyno figures are blurred on the screen capture ????

Just a bad scan of hard copy paper.

But you can see the "after" figure clearly on the Online Shop page HERE

The single muffler system sits almost the same heigh as the factory one, but with the twin system and the additional pipe going across to the 2nd muffler outlet you won't be able to fit the rear bash plate anymore.

Re:

Hi All,

Ok, I drove down from Melbourne on Thursday night going to Surrey Hills to install on my T31 diesel the CAT back single muffler system. I averaged as per trip computer 6.3Lts per 100kms. I did about 800kms before needing to refuel with the trip computer saying i have another 80kms left. Very good in my opinion.

Nick from Hi-Tech worked on my car and was finished in about 2 hrs (pretty good). The only disappointment I have is that he left a sticker ( think it wa a sticker) on a section of the ipe and now it has burned itself in. trying all different methods to get it of as it looks quite ugly.

Besdies this and as mentioned earlier, the exhaust has a deeper note under load but quite whilst cruising. I have felt that the car breezes better (revs easier). Not sure if I can feel a more power or not though. However, I do trust the dyno test that was don when this was developed.

Albeit to say, the drive back I averaged 7.3 lts. I have to admit I used the aircon for about 3 hrs, I had westerly winds which were strong at one stage and I eflt as if the way back to Melbourne has more inclines than the way to sydney. I asked a trucker friend of mine about this as I expected to have used either the same amount of fuel or less. He told me yes it is weird, even trucks seem to drink more diesel on the way back to Melbourne than on the way to Sydney.

anyway, I got back home and did an ecu reset. I followed the instructions to a T. anyway not sure what I was meant to feel or not to figure out if the reset worked. I don't believe there was much of a difference after the reset.

I will keep an eye out regarding fuel consumption and report ck in 2-4 weeks.

My conclusion for now. I am happy with the system as the engine seems to breathe and rev easier.

Re: Hi-Tech Cat. Back System (T31 Manual Diesel)

Hi Aram,

Glad to hear the installation went OK without major problems.

It is far too early to judge the fuel consumption with a brand new exhaust system fitted and after one run which you had without re-setting the ECU for it to pick-up that "engine breaths better" parameters emoticon

Give it a bit more time for the system to settle in place and the ECU to learn the changes.

You will indeed feel more power at your disposal even with the "butt dyno", the trick is to try and control yourself when driving, otherwise you may never see the same fuel consumption again LOL emoticon

There won't be anything noticeable when you re-set the ECU as such but you have forced it to learn faster by doing the re-set.

Re: Hi-Tech Cat. Back System (T31 Manual Diesel)

Hey All,

Ok, regarding my burned plastic on the exhaust piping. I used Mt Muscle Oven Cleaner Non Caustic. I warmed the engine to operating temperature and then applied it directly to the piping and on a towel. After a bit of elbow grease.....it came off!!! Now however, it is shiner than the rest of the piping as if its brand new. I reckon after a bit of driving the piping will burn into that redish colour again and it will all look the same. If it doesn't then I'd rather have a shiner bit of piping than plastic burned out marks.

If you do try this, pls wear a mask and protect your eyes and don't do it in windy conditions.

Regards
