Re:
Hi Kev,
The problem is not with the boot/tailgate or any part of the bumper itself, it is directly attributed to one of the towbar brackets on the left side of the towbar being larger than it should and therefore preventing the bumper from being set and positioned correctly in place no matter how hard the installer tries to align the bumper. Replacing any part of the tailgate or the rear bumper will NOT fix this problem and Nissan must find a solution to the left side towbar bracket or have the technicians modify (butcher) the internals of the left side of the bumper to sit over the towbar bracket and allow it to be aligned. Obviously this is not a solution Nissan Australia wants to publish in a technical bulletin to its dealers, as Genuine Nissan accessories (like the towbar) should NOT require any modification to any part of the vehicle to be fitted correctly and this should have been all tested as part of the product development.

Re: T31 Tailgate Rubbing on rear bumper
Hi Guys,
Nissan promised me today that they will put more weight on this issue and try to resolve it as soon as possible.
Their response on Facebook now clearly confirms that they agree with the problem and trying to find a solution:
quote:
Nissan X-Trail Australia
Hi X-TRAIL Forum, Scot, Cheryl and Norman - reason why it's taking longer than expected is because we are working towards a solution that is the best solution for the customer. Through investigation, our engineering team was not happy with what we thought would be the fix and have been doing more testing. We are getting closer however and will make sure to update you as soon as possible. Apologies for the delay and hope you can understand that although we have placed urgency on this, it's important to get the right fix.

Re:
Hi Paul,
I think it's been an issue from Day 1 when the T31 was launched but because some of the misalignment is minimal (like it is the case with my exy), some owners probably didn't notice it at all, especially if it wasn't causing any rubbing and mine hasn't rubbed anywhere, even after the off-road trip I have been to with the group.
