Blue tooth in TS - iphone or manual entry numbers

Greetings,

Apologies if there is already a thread on this, but I have been searching for it...

My iphone won't sync any numbers across to the blue tooth phone book in my new TS. This is the blue tooth without the big pretty display in the middle (in the TL model).
I can't find a way to force the iphone to send an individual phone number over the blue tooth (it only wants to send contact lists), and I have only found the option in the car blue tooth to accept one number at a time.
Does anyone know if there is a manual entry mode for the car blue tooth?

And whilst I'm at it, does anyone know the make and model number for the head unit in MY10 TS (with the 6 stack CD)? Maybe (unlikely, but I can try) there's a software flash that can be done on the head unit to integrate with the iphone.

Thx

Re: Blue tooth in TS - iphone or manual entry numbers

Hi Andy, Have you managed to solve your problem yet? If so how did you do it? I have the same issue with the TL. I can't transfer my contacts over with the iphone. I checked the Eclipse website and they state that the iPhone cannot "contact transfer" to the unit. So what I am going to try and you may want to give it a go as well is using a compatible phone to download the contacts. My friend has a Nokia Navigator which is fully compatible with my head deck according to their site. I will pair it up and transfer my contacts and see if the iphone will then recognize them. If this works I will let people know.

Cheers EsPeGe.

Re:

That is correct, Eclipse knows about this problem and the "contacts" transfer from an IPhone is not possible. (at this stage). I had someone post this exact question on our Facebook page as well.

Hate to say this but iPhones don't do a lot of things other phones do. They are beautiful things but I've heard too many stories like this to ever buy one.

Never had a problem with my Nokia or now with my Android.

I'll go quiet now.

Nope fair point. I used to bag the hell out of iPhones but despite it's short comings I don't know that I'll ever go back. Fingers crossed there will eventually be a fix for all this nonsense. Until then I will have to do with a dodgey fix.

Re: Blue tooth in TS - iphone or manual entry numbers

Breaking news, I have just this minute received an email from Eclipse. I asked them about my idea to use my friends Navigator to transfer the contacts then just re-pair the iPhone. The response was

"Yes, the Nokia will be able to transfer your contacts and once stored,
you can re-pair your iPhone and use the phonebook.

The AVN726EA does not store phonebook/phone pairing seperately.

The phonebook is only lost when a battery is disconnected and/or a
master reset on the AVN726EA".

So at least I should have my contacts stored. The only thing missing now will be the ability to interact with the iPod on the iPhone. You can play and stop only, not FF or Rew and no tracklists but I can deal with that. Especially since I have a normal iPod dedicated to the car that plugs in via USB which also charges it.

Happy days!! emoticon

Re: Blue tooth in TS - iphone or manual entry numbers

Hiya EsPeGe,

Glad to hear that you've managed to find a way forward.

Unfortunately it doesn't work in the TS as the head-unit in that keeps the phonebooks separate with different phones.

Great that you've got it working on the Eclipse and it will save a few Ti / TL owners a bit of frustration.

Unfortunately the "bluetooth" system has many protocols and implementations, and the ones on the iphone just don't allow for individual telephone number transfer.

I must admit though, I haven't done a search on the app store for a while. Maybe a new utility has popped up that can export single numbers. I'll have to have a hunt.

Enjoy your tooting along!

Re:

Seems a bit strange that they will not accept the iphone contact list.

I have 2 Tom Tom SatNav's and both of them pair perfectly to mu iphone, and accept all of the contacts that are stored on my phone.

Hopefully this will be rectified as its a bit disappointing to here this.

Chris

Re: Blue tooth in TS - iphone or manual entry numbers

Unfortunately, Bluetooth isn't just Bluetooth.

There are many protocols and manufacturers implement various mixes on their devices.

I don't know which protocols the head unit in the TS utilises, but the iphone doesn't have the capability (that I know of) to send an individual phone number - which is what the head unit requires. Likewise, the head unit cannot receive an en-masse transfer of contacts. It's got a limited quantity of numbers it can store.

If you know an iphone utility that can bluetooth transmit single phone numbers i'd appreciate it.

Re:

Well my iphone sends single / multiple contacts to my tomtom's with no issues

I dont use any other utility to do it, just pair the phone with the tomtom's ( GO1000 & GO1050 )

Then the phone happily re-pairs each time, I can browse the phonebook no worries, though the phone book is tied to the phone that is paired.

I would think that its more of the headunit issue then the iphone itself, as the iphones bluetooth is better then it used to be.

Cheers
