Wilpena Pound March 2011
Yay, finally worked out image shack, so thought I should do a quick trip report .
It was decided that a weekend away was needed, so we loaded up the X-trail with tent, esky, barbie, and food. Oh and a small fishing rod and a tackle bag.
We left Adelaide early, and followed a mates Hi Lux toward Clare. There is a small town justn outside Clare called spalding, and an old man sells access to his property for $10 a day per fisherman. It has a tributary of the Murray running through it, and is 'allegedly' home to many Murray cod, and some carp. We stayed a couple of hours, and threw back a small Cod, probably about 2 or 3 kilos, and hit the road again.
It rained all day, and the Wilpena resort was soaked, we too a permanent tent site, and headed out for a drive. I wish i had filled up at hawker, as the fuel at the resort was $ 1.65 !!
We took the Bunyeroo gorge turnoff to follow a ring route tourist drive on mud and gravel roads. There was an awful lot of wildlife, Roo's and Emu's. The tracks were fun, as the rain had made it slippery and the creeks had a splash of water in them as this video shows.
( sorry, mates little digi cam died, and we lost all exy footage , this is from my dash, on my mobile, in its screen mount holder) Great for HiLux fans.

We had to stop and rescue a guy with a tour group, he had a serious flat, and no handle for his jack. He was trying to wind a Troopie up with a leatherman. I set the exhaust jack up and we had the wheel done in a few minutes. Then we headed for the campsite before dark.
the next day we packed up and headed for the same track but with a left fork across towards Parachilna through the park. Again, lots of wildlife, and a bit of a splash around.

We decided to head back for Wallaroo on the way home, and found some 4wd tracks nearby. The mud was seriously deep and we took some excellent footage of the x-trail, but sadly those too were lost with the dicky video cam. The car handled it all brilliantly, and I cant wait to get away again. Perhaps next trip, i can post some more shots.

Re: Wilpena Pound March 2011
Sounds like you guys had fun, the video and photo remind me a bit of the type of landscape we have in the Grampians National park in Victoria.

Re: Wilpena Pound March 2011
The spotties are fine, no wobble. They are 170's too, quite heavy. I'll get around to posting a couple of pics of how i did it in the lighting section this weekend.
I think I will be trying boat harbour track at Deep Creek this weekend, will let you know how the x trail goes.

Re: Wilpena Pound March 2011
Hi T
Not 100% sure about this but I think the airbags only deploy if impacted at over 15 km/h. This was kind of confirmed when I hit a sign post in a Ford exploder, with a trailer on the back. Fairly small impact ( maybe 8 - 12 km/h at impact) , but enough to do about $8-9000 damage. No airbag deployed.
I dont think a brace would do a lot of harm, but I am no expert.
will take some video and photos, fingers crossed I can get back up the hill unaided
