Re: Throttle Lag

Probably check the air filter.
Maybe do the ECU reset and all the pedal position relearns and the idle air relearn.

Re: Throttle Lag advice

Hi I have a series II sr20VET and consult II tells me that the ECU is going WOT when the tps outputs a value of about 1.04. NOW...that happens at 1700 RPM......so I am running open loop rich with the o2 pegged at .9 from 1700 rpm...even if I am cruising. Bad mileage...15mpg actually.

HOW can i recalibrate this tps, as the tps and electronic throttle appear to be the same.

thx

Re: Throttle Lag

A faulty TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) would result in wierd RPMs, but it can be tested as follows to see if it's still working or not:

To check the throttle sensor (tps):
Start the car.
1) Disconnect the grey bottom harness connector
2) Holding the grey connector from the sensor with the plastic connecting piece facing to the right, check the resistance between the middle terminal and the bottom terminal at the following accelerator conditions;
Completely released - resistance should be approx. 1k Ohm
Partially depressed - resistance should be between 1k Ohm and 9 k Ohms
Fully depressed - resistance should be approx. 9k Ohms
To test the adjustment: Loosen the two bolts that hold the black portion of the tps to the throttle chamber. Set your multimeter to measure Volts and insert your leads from your multimeter into the harness while it's connected, where the black and white wires enter. You may need to stick a smaller wire (paper clip, misc. copper wire, etc.) into this area if your leads are too thick to be inserted themselves. Then while the car is idling, watch the voltage display and adjust the TPS by slightly rotating/moving the TPS unit up or down.
You want to get the voltage to read between .4V and .5V, with most people setting it at about .45V. When you get it to the proper voltage, simply tighten the bolts. Then unplug the grey connector for about 5 sec then plug back in. This will lower the idle to the proper level.

If you can't get the voltage to read between .4 and .5V you may need a new tps.

Re: Throttle Lag

Thx J...BUT my T30 has an electronic throttle ...so its a motorised integrated unit on the throttlebody. Can't twist it. Via consult II i get readings for both the throttle and the accel
pedal.

If u care to dl the Nissan Datascan free s'ware from Blazt.biz , I can send u the log I have so u can really see the graphs and sensors interact.

Nissan DataScan 1.2

With no accl pedal ....full idle.....the TPS reads .76. Once it hits 1.04 the ECU goes Open loop rich. That happens at abt 1700 rpm. Everything is max rich thereafter.

Re: Throttle Lag

You can try replacing the TPS and see what happens.

Or you can try THIS procedure for the QR25DE and see if it works.

Wow...should have read this first...anyway, when first got the car, changed the engine oil and ATF, cleaned the air filters and also cleaned the throttle body i.e. only the butterfly, and the RPM shoot up to 1500.....went to Nissan Service Center and got it reset. I am used to cleaning the butterfly everytime service the car...well not for this model, at least for me. Need to try the above...hehe

Re:

Yeah Faizal, never touch the butterfly with your hands on the exy, it'll go mad after that and will require an idle re-set.

Re: Throttle Lag

After installing my grounding kit i felt that there is a lot better throttle response and faster shift down (as explained in my review for grounding kits).

And...

A couple of months back after I installed my 'performance' mods (especially my piggyback) i noticed that the car would JUMP from stand still due to massive increase in torque 30Nm from 1500-2500. I found this irritating because 70% of the time I spend on start-stop traffic, the car would just lunge forwards from stop and my passengers would get their head shot out of the back window and as this happens I would have to stomp on my brakes and they would go through the front window.

Anyways, what I learnt is that the exy's drive by wire adapts to how we drive (like merc, bmw, audi, etc...). If we drive like grannies the car would be smooth off the line and some throttle lag (throttle butterfly opens slowly), but if we start to drive the car like we stole it, the throttle becomes sensitive and the throttle butterfly would open very aggressively, increase in performance and fall in economy and vice versa.

So what I did was instead of buying sprint booster, I bought I-Drive by Autogauge. Where sprint booster only can sharpen up your throttle (I think), the I-Drive can go from Economy 1-5 <-> Normal <-> Sport 1-7. So in total it has 13 settings. And you can control how aggressive you want to drive on the fly. Its a plug and play system so when you're bored with it you can just reverse the installation feature emoticon

Well, I hope this helps somewhat.

Cheers guys.
