Auto-Dimming Rear View Mirror
Hi Guys,
In response to a request from our new Canadian member HERE, I have done some research into the possibility of retrofitting an auto-dimming rear-view mirror to an xtrail and it is indeed possible.
In fact it is possible to do so on almost any car.
The company that makes the auto-dimming mirrors for most car manufacturers is GENTEX Corporation and they have a list of many variants of the rear view mirrors (example: with compass, temp sensor, homelink...etc) and they also have a list of Nissan vehicles it suits and can be retrofitted to an xtrail. The list can be found HERE
HERE is a website of a Nissan Frontier owner who retrofitted the auto-dimming mirror on his car successfully and the process doesn't seem to be hard at all.
If you Google Gentex Mirror you will find many companies selling them in all different combinations, and THIS is one source, just to give you an idea about the price. They can also be found on eBay.
I think it's a nice mod and it would be good to see someone try and do it and share the results with the rest.

Re: Auto-Dimming Rear View Mirror
Hi Scot,
It could only become a group-buy after we successfully test fit it on both T30 and T31.

Re: Auto-Dimming Rear View Mirror
I was after similar but the one I like is same as my friends Nissan Patrol Ti 1999/01 model, that have a sunny holder ,compass and out temp (I have out temp in air con controller) and sunroof control ,surely will fit the contour of our xtrail roof lining. hard to get though.

Re: Auto-Dimming Rear View Mirror
The Nissan Murano comes with the auto-dimming mirror, so I might try and find one at the wreckers to see if it fits.
As far as I can remember, the T31 rear view mirror is stuck to the windscreen, so I believe this type of mirror will fit perfectly in the T31 as they may be able to use the existing windscreen mounting point. It is a bit more complicated with the T30 as we would need to remove the mirror from it's base in the roof and then try and retrofit this auto dimming one to make it look like a factory fit.

Re: Auto-Dimming Rear View Mirror
Thanks for the link... I will be looking into this ASAP and will keep you posted....
My wife Jeep Compass came with it and I think it's got to be one of the better things the automotive industry has made in some time.
